DISCOP Africa, an event for media, film and TV organizations from various countries to exchange insights and expand cooperation, was held from Nov. 20 to 22 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

During the festival, nine Chinese media corporations displayed nearly 100 TV productions, including TV series, documentaries, cartoons, and variety shows, becoming a highlight of the event.

Wu Baoan, director-general of the General Office in National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA), expressed the hope that through the festival, more Chinese stories could be heard around the world.

Patrick Zuchowicki, president of DISCOP, thanked the NRTA for its constant support, saying that Africa hopes to garner more attention and resource investment by promoting co-production with global partners.

Izu Osuigwe of a Nigerian TV station told People’s Daily that TV and film works would bring the hearts of Chinese and African people closer together.

He pointed out that the China-aided project, under which the Chinese government pledged to provide satellite televisions for 10,000 African villages, has just been completed in Nigeria. The project will not only enrich the lives of local people but also promote the development of local TV stations.

Launched in 2008, DISCOP Africa is the most influential commercial TV exhibition in Africa and an important window for communication between Africa and the rest of the world. The three-day exhibition attracted more than 1,000 TV professionals from more than 100 countries and regions.
