Foreign companies in China resume work amid pneumonia outbreak

(People's Daily Online)    15:44, February 25, 2020

More than 80 percent of key foreign enterprises in Shanghai, Shandong province and other regions have resumed work amid the pneumonia outbreak, Economic Daily reported.

Foreign companies have taken various measures to ensure safety as people return to work. The US conglomerate Honeywell International Inc. has resumed operation at 21 of its factories in China, taking employees’ temperatures, and sterilizing the workplace three times a day, among other measures, to guarantee that business is conducted safely.

To support foreign enterprises, the government has rolled out policies such as cutting taxes and fees to ease their burdens. The multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca plc is one of the beneficiaries of such policies.

The local government has not only provided medical masks for its production base in Wuxi, east China’s Jiangsu province, but has also helped the company guarantee logistics and employees return to Wuxi so the company can resume normal operations, said a manager with AstraZeneca.

Many foreign companies expressed confidence in China’s final victory over the novel coronavirus and are optimistic about the future of the Chinese economy.

The government is helping US agriculture and food company Cargill solve various problems, such as a shortage of workers and logistics, to ensure normal operation and production, according to a manager with the company, adding that he believes the coronavirus will eventually be defeated.
