REPORT ON THE WORK OF THE GOVERNMENT

Fellow Deputies: Now, on behalf of the State Council I submit the report on the work of the government for your examination and approval and also for comments and suggestions from members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

On the basis of these general requirements, in 2002 we need to focus on the following eight aspects of work:

A. Expanding and Fostering Domestic Demand to Ensure a Relatively Rapid Economic Growth

B. Accelerating the Development of Agriculture and the Rural Economy and Increasing the Incomes of Farmers

C.Carrying Forward Adjustment of the Economic Structure and the Economic Restructuring

D.Adapting to the New Situation Following China's Entry into the WTO and Opening Wider to the Outside World

E.Thoroughly Rectifying and Regulating the Order of the Market Economy

F.Implementing the Strategy of Developing the Country Through Science and Education and the Strategy of Sustainable Development and Strengthening Spiritual Civilization

G.Further Transforming Government Functions and Improving the Work Style

H. Doing a Good Job in Foreign Affairs

Fellow Deputies, this year, the work of the government will be quite arduous, and the responsibilities we shoulder are important and glorious. Let us rally more closely around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Jiang Zemin at its core, hold high the great banner of Deng Xiaoping Theory, and follow "The Three Represents" principle, so as to strengthen our confidence, overcome difficulties, and do solid work to achieve new successes in our reform and opening up and the modernization drive with a spirit of progressing with the times to build a better future!
