China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A -- the Largest Chamber of Commerce for Chinese Enterprises Abroad

The former status of China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A is "China Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A", a great non-profitable organization which established in New York on January 24, 1996, supported by formerly Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation in China, Department of Commerce in U.S.A, and National Council for US-China Trade. The China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A is one of the largest oversea organizations and most influential organizations in U.S.A.

The first and second Chairman was Mr. Shen Beizhang, Board Chairman of Shanghai International Holding Corp. (America). Mr. Zhang Liyong, President of China Ocean Shipping Company (COSCO) Americas, Inc., is the third Chairman of the Chamber.

The members cover ten industries like electronics, machine, petroleum, hardware, mining, food, clothes & shoes, toys and craftwork, including different properties like public-operated, stock holding system and non-governmental business. Then the complete business chains are formed including manufacture, import & export, wholesales, finance, insurance, transportation, storage, advertisement, exhibition and consultation.

The members of the China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A have played an important role in long-term China-US business, and they have also weighed a lot in annual average trade volume of 130 billion USD since 2001. Many members, ranking among top 500 in China, have outstanding reputation in both China and international business circles.

The China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A is the representative of Chinese industrial and regional chambers of commerce in the US, and the members of these chambers amount to two million. The China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A has established a close relationship for a long term with manufacturers, purchasers and wholesalers in the US.

The goal of the China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A is to promote China-US business, help domestic governments and enterprises to find business opportunities in the US, offer business consultation and service to members. The Chamber of Commerce introduces clients, holds various lectures for their members to be familiar with the US laws, master the market trends, and grasp opportunities of investment and business. The Chamber of Commerce also offers guidance and help for members to get business visas, and offers a series of guidance and help on oversea market expansion of cities and provinces in China.

As the most representative chamber of commerce, the China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A, together with National Council for US-China Trade, organized and hosted the large Welcome Conference when former Chinese President Jiang Zemin visited the US, which has become the most extensive business conference in the US.

With China entering the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the extensive development of Opening up and Reform, many economic forms co-exist. China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A encourages Chinese enterprises to invest in the US. The large Seminar of "How Chinese Enterprises Entering U.S.A" was held in New York in September 2002 encouraging Chinese enterprises to employ local staffs as possible as they can in the US. COSCO Americas, Inc. alone employed more than 900 local staffs.

On March 29, 2003 the feasibility-demonstrating conference of how to promote free trade between China and the US was held in New York, and the National Council for US-China Trade was established, whose final purpose is to promote the governments of China and the US to discuss the conclusion of bilateral free trade agreement.

The China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A was established jointly by the Chinese enterprises associations and chambers of commerce institutions all over the US on September 14, 2005, supported by Ministry of Commerce of China, Chinese Embassy in the US, Consulate General in New York and New York State Government.

Headquarter of the China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A: It is registered in Washington D.C., Capital of the US, and it has 6 branches in Washington D.C., New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Houston.

The China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A is a non-profitable association with 31 directors and members all over the US. Now 1,019 Chinese enterprises have begun their business in the US.

The first Chairman of the China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A is Mr. Zhang Liyong, President of COSCO in the US, and eight Vice Presidents were selected through voting, they are:

Ms. Ni Pin, President of Wanxiang American Co.,

Mr. Yang Su, General Manager of Chinacoal American Co.,

Mr. Yuan Ning, President of China Construction American Co., and

Ms. Xu Kaige, President of Sinopec (U.S.A) Inc.

The tenets of the China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A is to offer service to the Chinese enterprises registered in the US, protect the rights and interests of the Chinese enterprises, and promote development of China-US business relationship and communications among enterprises.

Today, the China General Chamber of Commerce in U.S.A will fulfill their responsibilities in accordance with the tenets in the promoting of China-US business development in the near future.
