What are the difficulties in China’s peripheral diplomacy? (2)

Competition among big countries

It is the first time in history that China and Japan have coexisted as great powers. It seems that Japan is unwilling to accept the fact, so competition between two countries increases.

India also competes with China in growth rate, international influence and national system.

Of course, it is the United States that exerts greatest influence on China’s neighboring environment. The U.S. attitude toward the future China-U.S. relations determines its China policy. The United States is in its quest for the applicable China policy. On the one hand, it conducts cooperation and exchanges with China, benefitting from China’s development. And on the other hand, it hampers the rise of China. Taking advantage of conflicts between China and neighboring countries is one of the methods to contain China.

Even so, we have to admit that there are also some positive factors for China in dealing with diplomatic affairs. If some complicated problems are handled properly, they can be converted into opportunities. In any case, China cannot simplify its peripheral diplomacy. Taking all related factors into consideration, China should make meticulous and unremitting efforts to build the common interests with its neighbors.
