Chinese soccer corruption

Two former directors of the Chinese Football Administrative Center, Nan Yong and Xie Yalong, were both sentenced to more than 10 years of imprisonment for taking bribes.

Nan Yong, the former director of the Chinese Football Administrative Center who was charged with 17 counts of taking bribes -worth a total of 1.48 million yuan (about US$235,000).

Nan's predecessor Xie Yalong, accused of accepting bribes totaling at more than 1.7 million yuan (US$273,000), was sentenced to 10 and a half years in prison for his misconduct.

During April's hearing, Xie told the court that he had been tortured into confessing to bribe-taking. The 56-year-old Xie said that he had been tortured with electric shocks, was severely beaten, and doused with water during interrogations. The Liaoning police has denied any wrongdoings.

They were among the 11 people who were punished for their respective parts in the match-fixing and gambling scandal that came to light two years ago.
