6. Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961, as amended by the 1972 Protocol Amending the Single Conventionon Narcotic Drugs, 1961 (hereafter referred to as "61 Convention"). A United Nations conference was held in Geneva in 1972 to amend the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961. The 1972 Protocol Amending the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961 (also known as the 1972 Protocol) was concluded on March 25, and was named as Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961, as amended by the 1972 Protocol Amending the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961 for all contracting countries' ratification.
7. The 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances (hereafter referred to as 71 Convention). The 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances was signed by the United Nations in Vienna in 1971. In face of increasingly serious psychotropic substances abuse world-wide, it suggest the contracting countries to take effective measures to put the substances under surveillance.
8. United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (hereafter referred to as 88 Convention). The United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances was adopted by the United Nations in 1988.
In addition, a Special Session of the United Nations General Assembly against drug issues to prohibit the illegal production, supply, demand, traffic and distribution of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances through international cooperation was held in New York on February 20-23, 1990. Delegation from more than 100 countries, including China, participated in the session, during which a Political Declaration and a Global Program of Action were adopted. These programs and declarations have played a very important role in cracking down drug-related crimes world-wide and severely punishing the related criminals.
