Necessity is the mother of education (2)

Therefore, mothers should pay more attention to the all-round development of their children rather than spending all their time and energy on trying to improve their scores. They should create a healthy family atmosphere, build smooth a parent-child relationship and establish an emotional bond with their wards. And mothers should remember that they could spoil their children by doting on them.

That the emphasis today is on "competition among mothers" rather than "competition among parents" has a lot to do with Chinese tradition, which places the responsibility of children's education on mothers. In the past, husbands used to be the breadwinners while wives took care of the house, and thus children's education was regarded mainly as mothers' responsibility. But times have changed and so have the roles in the family.

There is wide acceptance of gender equality in society today. Many women complement their husbands' income in the family; some even earn more than their husbands. As an individual, the mother's role is only one of many that women perform in today's society. Among other things, they share the financial burden of the family and bear the pressures that come with a job. That's why it's unfair to put the entire burden of children's education on their shoulders.

Moreover, a father's role in a child's upbringing is extremely important, which he cannot avoid playing. Families in which fathers and mothers share the responsibility of their children's education have a harmonious environment that is conducive to children's healthy growth. Fathers who don't take enough interest in their children's upbringing undermine their healthy development.

So even if a good mother should be "better than a good teacher", she should not be expected to become her child's after-school teacher. In fact, a good mother should be able to realize and provide what is really good for her child instead of spending all her time trying to improve its scores in exams.
