Fu Mingxia Quits National Games due to Injury

It came out as one of the biggest upsets so far at the on-going China's ninth national games here that world and Olympic champion diver Fu Mingxia has decided to quit the games.

It came out as one of the biggest upsets so far at the on-going China's ninth national games here that world and Olympic champion diver Fu Mingxia has decided to quit the games.

Fu, who has not taken any serious training after she won the Olympic women's three-meter springboard title last year in Sydney, a record fourth Olympic gold medal for the star from central China's Hubei Province. She had been reported to be still suffering from a neck injury.

Fu had been entered to represent Hubei in the two springboard events at the games. But her neck problem had been thought to prevent her from competing in form. The provincial delegation had already noticed the event's organizing committee of the decision, for which Hubei faces a fine.
