Chinese President Meets Nokia Chairman

Chinese President Jiang Zemin told Nokia Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jorma Ollila in Beijing Friday that he appreciated the achievements that Nokia Group of Finland has made in China.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin told Nokia Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jorma Ollila in Beijing Friday that he appreciated the achievements that Nokia Group of Finland has made in China.

Jiang said China pays great attention to the development and application of information technology, as the country is using information technology to accelerate the process of industrialization and modernization.

Jiang expressed the wish that Nokia will continue to play an active role in economic and technical cooperation with Chinese industries.

Ollila said China has a huge potential market. He said Nokia puts strategic emphasis on its operation in China and will increase the scope of investment and technology transfer to the country.

Chinese Minister of Information Industry Wu Jichuan was presentat the meeting.

Nokia to Double Investment in Beijing
Beijing Shouxin Nokia new workshop, ie Xingwang (international) industrial park was formally put into operation in Beijing economic-technological development area December 20.

Since its establishment in May 2000, the industrial park has been progressing very smoothly. So far, some 15 domestic and foreign famous companies have settled down in the park.

Beijing has signed a memo on second-phase cooperation for the industrial park with Nokia, Nokia said that its investment in Beijing is to be expanded by one fold.

The scale of the first-phase project Nokia invested will double, with floor space of workshops to increase from 50 ha to 100 ha. The number of companies going to settle in the park will also rise to 15. With a total investment of over 10 billion yuan, it is so far Beijing's largest foreign-funded project.
