China has recently launched a three-year project to revive the ecological system along Yangtze River, the longest in the country.

The project, involving 9 million yuan (1.1 million U.S. dollars) in investment, will be implemented in 10 counties at the middle and upper reaches of the river, covering a total area of 8,000 square kilometers, according to the Yangtze River Water Resources Committee under the Ministry of Water Resources.

Upon completion of the project, 80 percent of the river's source area stricken by soil erosion will get effective treatment, and the forest and grassland coverage rate is expected to increase to over 70 percent, officials with the committee said.
