Three Firms on List for China's First LNG Project

Three overseas suppliers were shortlisted by China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC), the nation's third largest oil company, for a 10 billion U.S. dollars supply contract for China's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.

Three overseas suppliers were shortlisted by China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC), the nation's third largest oil company, for a 10 billion U.S. dollars supply contract for China's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.

  • The three firms includes Australia-based LNG Pty, BP Gas in Indonesia and Qatar's Ras Laffan Co, Zhen Bing, spokesman for CNOOC was quoted as saying.

  • Two of three suppliers would be finally rejected by the middle of this year. And the winner will supply three million tons of LNG reception terminal in south China's Guangdong province.

    CNOOC once invited seven potential suppliers from Australia, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Qatar, Russia and Yemen for the bidding in earlier time.



    China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) is a State oil company incorporated on February 15,1982��with approval from State Council. Fully authorized by the "regulations of the People's Republic China on Exploitation Offshore Petroleum Resources in Cooperation with Foreign Enterprises" which was promulgated by the State Council, CNOOC is assumed with the overall responsibilities for the exploitation of offshore petroleum and natural gas resources in the People's Republic of China in cooperation with foreign enterprises.     In order to make up for domestic energy supply shortage and to meet the urgent demand for natural gas and optimize energy consumption structure in coastal provinces with fast economic growth, CNOOC was assigned by SDPC to organize and conduct a study for a large energy project, that is, to import liquefied natural gas (LNG).
