Chinese men's figure skaters vowed to enter the top six, their best ever, at the upcoming Winter Olympic Games before they left here on Tuesday for Salt Lake City, the United States.

Li Chengjiang, 23, who is to make his Winter Olympic debut at the Salt Lake City Games, will present a Chinese warrior through his short program and free skate while Zhang Min, a two-time Olympian, will skate with the Western music of The Brave Heart and Robinhood.

Li Yunfei, also a debutante at the Winter Olympics, is to skate Jazz style.

Li Chengjiang, winner of the Four Continent Figure Skating Championships last year, said: "Our goal is to reach the top six, no matter who can." "For myself, the higher place the better," he said.

Zhang, who attended 1994 Winter Olympic Games and finished 20th, promised to show his best and lead his younger teammates to win glory for the country.

"I was 18 when I first competed in the Olympic Games. I am matured and experienced now. I will nail my two different quadruple jumps in the competition," the 26-year-old said. "We are eager to improve China's position in the men's figure skating at the Games," he said.

The best ever Chinese men's figure skating performance at Winter Olympic Games was an eighth, obtained by Guo Zhengxin four years ago in Nagano, Japan.
