Mongolia, China Holds Talks on Trade Cooperation

Mongolian Prime Minister Nambaryn Enkhbayar and visiting Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng held talks Friday on further enlarging bilateral trade cooperation.

Mongolian Prime Minister Nambaryn Enkhbayar and visiting Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Shi Guangsheng held talks Friday on further enlarging bilateral trade cooperation.

Highlighting the significance of Shi's visit, Enkhbayar expressed the hope that the two countries could solidify cooperation on developing Mongolia's infrastructure, energy and exploiting mineral resources.

Shi said since China and Mongolia normalized relations in 1989,friendly ties have developed in an all-around way, and cooperationin various fields, such as economy and trade, culture, and education have been strengthened.

The volume of bilateral trade registered 0.36 billion US dollars in 2001, setting up a new record, Shi said. The trade volume from January to April reached 0.11 billion dollars, a 15.1 percent increase over the same period last year.

The Chinese minister said the trade cooperation between Mongolia and China has broad prospects and great potential.

Shi, heading a Chinese trade delegation, arrived in the Mongolian capital Wednesday at the invitation of Mongolian Minister of Industry and Trade Chimiddorjiin Ganzorig.

After a three-day visit, Shi wrapped up his tour Friday afternoon and headed back to China.
