It was the second time that Ratsiraka left Madagascar after the crisis broke out from last December when a general election was held in the Indian Ocean island country
Ratsiraka's wife, his son and brother as well as 20 others accompanied him to board a plane in the morning, which is expectedto take them to Seychelles, another Indian Ocean island country about 1,600 kilometers east of Kenya, said the report.
Madagascar has been split between Ratsiraka and incumbent President Marc Ravalomanana since last December.
Ratsiraka moved his cabinet to the eastern port of Toamasina, his home region and political stronghold, after Ravalomanana was officially sworn in as the head of state of Madagascar in May.
Supporters of Ratsiraka have erected barricades and blown up bridges on main roads to isolate the capital, cutting off suppliesof fuel and other essential goods.
So far, both the United States and France recognized Ravalomanana as the president of Madagascar.
