Shenzhen Leads Nation in Car Penetration
Shenzhen City in south China's Guangdong Province has 18.5 cars for every 100 households, far exceeding the national average of 1.14 for every 100 urban households.

The car penetration level of Shenzhen is higher than the international standard of 10 cars for 100 households.
Car ownership in Shenzhen was seven cars for every 100 households in 2000, but in the first half of the year, 6,400 automobiles were sold with the majority bought for private purposes, said sources from the State Taxation Bureau of Shenzhen City.
The average spending of local residents on car purchases rose by 16.7 percent from 76,000 yuan (9,157 US dollars) last year to 128,000 yuan (15,422 dollars) this year, faster than the average increase in incomes of 8.9 percent.
