Joint Venture to Produce Regional Jets

China has approved a regional aircraft joint venture between the China Aviation Industry Corp. II and Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, according to Thursday's China Daily.

China has approved a regional aircraft joint venture between the China Aviation Industry Corp. II and Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer, according to Thursday's China Daily.

The Beijing-based English newspaper quoted a reliable source assaying that the joint venture will be located in Harbin in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province and is expected to produce50-seat aircraft.

Mauricio Botelho, president and CEO of Embraer, said his company is expecting to seal the agreement with the Chinese side by the end of this year and the new company is expected to deliver the first airliner within 18 months upon the signature of contract.

Experts say the country will demand some 600 regional jets, with 50 to 110 seats and a flight range of 600 to 1,200 km in the coming two decades.
