Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul-Aziz and visiting Iranian President Mohammad Khatami held talks on a potential US strike against Iraq in Saudi city of Jeddahon Saturday, reports said.

The two leaders expressed grave concern over the situation in the Gulf, particularly in Iraq which is under growing US threat of military action.

The two sides also reviewed bilateral relations.

Khatami arrived in Saudi Arabia Wednesday night, immediately embarking on a private pilgrimage to Muslim holy sites in the country.

Saudi Arabia and Iran have been opposed to US threat to launch a military strike on Iraq.

Saudi Arabia has pressed ahead with closer relations with Iran despite misgivings in the United States, which has labelled Iran, Iraq and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) as "axis of evil".

In his speech at the UN General Assembly Thursday, US President George W. Bush warned that US action against Baghdad was "unavoidable" unless the United Nations disarmed Iraq, which Bush suspects of harbouring a programme for weapons of mass destruction.
