S.Korea, DPRK Hold Inter-Korean Economic Talks in Pyongyang

The third inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Promotion Meeting started its economic talks in Pyongyang Thursday to exchange views on outstanding issues involving the two sides, according to South Korean national news agency Yonhap News.

The third inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Promotion Meeting started its economic talks in Pyongyang Thursday to exchange views on outstanding issues involving the two sides, according to South Korean national news agency Yonhap News.

The meeting will focus on the development of the Kaesong Industrial Complex, electricity cooperation, flood prevention measures on the Imjin River as well as the reconnection of the Gyeongui (Seoul-Shinuiju) and Donghae railroads.

A 35-member South Korean delegation, headed by Vice Finance and Economy Minister Yoon Jin-shik, arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday,capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), via Shenyang, China, to attend the three-day meeting.

For the DPRK side, Pak Chang Ryon, the DPRK's chairman of the Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Promotion Committee, is the head of Pyongyang's negotiators, Yonhap said.

The economic talks are the continuation of the second round of meeting held in Seoul on Aug. 27-30, which also touched the above issues. Up to now, the two sides have taken several concrete measures to improve their ties including the preparation work for the relinking of the cross border railways and roads and the clearance of the landmines in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) at the truce village, Panmunjom.

The two sides agreed in early November to start the first stageof the development of the Kaesong Industrial Complex in DPRK within this year.
