"This is my 38th visit to China as I can remember. I'm very pleased to see that China has made a sustainable development during the past 30 years in which it has scored great achievements." Dr. Kissinger told our reporters.

PRINT DISCUSSION CHINESE SEND TO FRIEND

On the evening of Nov.5, 2002, the southern hall on the third floor of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing was seethed with prominent figures and friends, scores of media big shots from some 17 countries and regions of the world were having an enthusiastic cocktail party here. They've come to Beijing for the 7th annual meeting of the Museum of Television & Radio (MT&R) International Council.

However, the most attractive person at the party was not those big bosses of the well-known media but an old man of no tall stature with a pair of glasses on. When he came on the scene he was at once rounded up by numerous reporters. He is Dr. Kissinger, the former US secretary of the state who has always been active on the international arena for some 30 years in the past. This time, he came to China for attending the 7th annual meeting of the MT&R International Council as its vice president.

"This is my 38th visit to China as I can remember. I'm very pleased to see that China has made a sustainable development during the past 30 years in which it has scored great achievements." He told the reporters with ease and confidence though he had no intention to accept any interview with the reporters at the very beginning.

To call for the annual meeting in Beijing, he said, is "because the Chinese media businesses have stricken an unbelievable progress in the past 20 years." "When I first came to China I saw only two TV channels and very few Television stations. But now it has so many of them." "Now, I have to work hard to get a better understanding of the Chinese media market."

"As an American, I hope that the relations between the United States and China will be further developed." Dr. Henry Kissinger said, "for it is of great importance to the progress of the world. When the relations between the two countries take a turn for the better, it is, as we see today, a news good for the whole world."

He is of opinion that the meeting of the two state leaders not long ago has "greatly" pushed forward the relations between the United States and China. "The two leaders discussed on the matters of importance concerning the relations of the two countries with a cooperative and active attitude. This is an inspiring change". At the very beginning when President Bush came to his office it witnessed an unfavorable period as to the ties between the two countries. Nevertheless, it is now heading forward along a positive orientation. "I believe as always, the ties between the US and China sees a good future as its development is good for both countries."

As regards the upcoming 16th Party Congress, Henry Kissinger expressed his great interest and concern for it. The great contribution made by the third generation of the Chinese State leaders with Jiang Zemin at the core, he said, is that they've brought China into modernization and made it to merge with the international community". "This should be considered as a historic progress China has made".

At last, Kissinger said, "China had very little connections with the outside world when I came here for the first time, but now it has become one of the mainstays in the international system."

When the interview came to an end persons of the Chinese party on the scene, vying with one another, had a photo-taken together with Henry Kissinger. With smiles on their faces they expressed their sincere gratitude to the old man who opened up and pushed forward the diplomatic relations between China and the United States of America.
