More Foreign Leaders Hail Hu on Election as CPC Leader

More leaders of some friendly nations, political parties and organizations have sent congratulatory messages to Hu Jintao on his election as the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), at the CPC's 16th National Congress which closed last Thursday.

More leaders of some friendly nations, political parties and organizations have sent congratulatory messages to Hu Jintao on his election as the general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), at the CPC's 16th National Congress which closed last Thursday.

In their telegrams, Singapore's Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and Senior Minister in Prime Minister's office Lee Kuan Yew warmly congratulated Hu on his election as the party's leader.

"China has entered a critical phase of its development. The Chinese economy is becoming increasingly integrated into the global economy. This will bring about many changes." Goh said in his message. "I am confident that under your leadership and with the 'Three Represents', the Party will successfully meet these challenges, and steer China to even greater heights."

Nepal's King Gyanendra hailed Hu's election and wished him greater success in his term.

Vice President of the Croatian Parliament Mato Arlovic, who is also vice chairman of the Social Democratic Party, extended sincere congratulations to Hu and expressed his wishes for "the further development and progress of the friendly People's Republic of China, as well as for successful cooperation between our peoples and countries."

Maldivian President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom said in his message: "I express my hope that the existing relations of friendship and cooperation that exist between the Maldives and China will continue to prosper in the years ahead."

Chairman of Ecuador's Popular Democracy-Christian Democratic Union Juan Manuel Fuertes warmly congratulated Hu on his election and hoped that cooperation between his party and the CPC will be further promoted.

Seychelles' Vice President James Michel, who is also secretary general of Seychelles People's Progressive Front, extended warm and cordial congratulations to Hu and expressed his belief that the friendship and cooperation between the two governments and peoples will be further developed.

President of Suriname Runaldo Ronald Venetiaan, who is also chairman of the National Party of Suriname (NPS), and the vice chairman of the NPS, O.R. Rodgers, said in the congratulatory message: "The NPS hopes that the leadership of Mr. Hu Jintao and his newly elected colleagues will take the CPC and your country, China, to ever increasing heights and will also continue to contribute to peace, freedom and development in the world."

Secretary-General of the African National Congress of South Africa Kgalema Motlanth extended his hearty congratulations to Hu.

"I trust that, under the leadership of Comrade Hu, the bilateral relations between the African National Congress and the Communist Party of China will continue to strengthen," he said in the message.

Prime Minister of the Cook Islands Robert Woonton said in his message: "Relations between the Cook Islands and the People's Republic of China have both strengthened and deepened over recent years. My Government looks forward to that process continuing under your leadership as, together, we cooperate in relation to the many bilateral and multilateral matters of importance to our two countries."

Uzbekistan's President Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov extended his hearty congratulations to Hu and expressed hope that Uzbekistan and China would further develop and strengthen the long-term friendship between the two peoples, and much-sided cooperation based on mutual respect.

The King of Saudi Arabia, Fahd Ibn Abdul-Aziz, hoped China would continue striving for the achievement of peace, security and stability in the world.

In his congratulatory telegram, the head of Japan's Democratic Party, Hatoyama Yukio, expressed his belief that Hu will lead China to increasing prosperity and strength and, at the same time,make great contributions to world peace and stability. He added that both sides will try their best to further promote friendly communications and cooperation between the two parties and trust between Japan and China.

Chairman of the Communist Party of Brazil Renato Rabelo warmly congratulated Hu on his election and wished China continuous advancement in the cause of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. He also reiterated willingness to further strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between the two parties and peoples.

Leaders of a number of other foreign parties or countries also sent congratulatory messages to Hu on the occasion. They include Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah IbnAbdul-Aziz, South Korea's National Assembly former speaker Lee Man-sup, First Secretary of France's Socialist Party Francois Holland and leaders of political parties from Ecuador, Dominica, Guinea, Benin, Cape Verde, Venezuela, Italy and Romania.
