Paul Gascoigne's wild lifestyle may have taken its toll: He has been denied a chance to play in China's first division club Liaoning Bodao because he is "too weak physically."

A coach from Bodao said they had decided not to sign the 1990 World Cup hero after two day's trials because he is not strong enough physically.

"He is not agressive enough, either," said the coach. "And his pass is awful. We can not buy a player just because he was very famous."

And Gascoigne's drinking habit was reportedly another reason that stopped him from joining the north China club. "We could smell him drink in the morning," a Bodao player told reporters.

But Gascoigne still has other chances. Several other first division clubs have been prepared to take a look at how he can perform at the age of 35.
