Number of Chinese Woman Engineers Decreases

The number of Chinese woman engineers has been decreasing in recent years, said Vice Minister of Education Wu Qidi here Sunday at the Chinese Women's Ninth National Congress.

The number of Chinese woman engineers has been decreasing in recent years, said Vice Minister of Education Wu Qidi here Sunday at the Chinese Women's Ninth National Congress.

Since the retirement age for Chinese women is five years younger than for men, and less women students choose engineering as their major, the number of woman engineers has been declining, Wu said.

The situation did not help promote Chinese women's social position, she said.
