China kicks off annual quality inspection campaign

A grand ceremony was held here Sunday to unveil a nationwide quality inspection campaign aiming at cracking down on the production and sale of fake and shoddy goods across China.

A grand ceremony was held here Sunday to unveil a nationwide quality inspection campaign aiming at cracking down on the production and sale of fake and shoddy goods across China.

As a national annual movement, the campaign is jointly launchedby the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection andQuarantine, and China Association for Quality Promotion.

Pu Changcheng, deputy director of the administration, spoke at the ceremony, saying that this year's campaign will focus on the promotion of hi-tech products and goods of famous brands.

The campaign is expected to enhance consumers' quality awareness, as well as to improve the quality of goods, construction projects and service, Pu added.

The working staff for the campaign are mainly composed of reporters, experts, scholars and quality control officials, who have been divided into four groups on different missions.

Since it was launched in 1992, the national inspection campaign has proved to be a powerful spur to quality promotion and enhancedthe quality awareness of consumers, according to sources with the administration.

Hao Jianxiu, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), also attended the ceremony.
