An official with the Ministry of Culture said Saturday that China's online game industry has enormous market potential.

Liu Yuzhu, director of the Cultural Market Department, was speaking at a workshop of the First China International Exposition on Online Culture, which was held at China's Millenium Monument in downtown Beijing.

In 2002, China's online game industry pocketed 910 million yuan (about 110 million US dollars), compared to 310 million yuan ( about 37.34 million US dollars) in the previous year.

The number of online game players in 2002 doubled from four million of the previous year.

In 2001, each of local online game players spent 15.6 yuan ( about 1.88 US dollars) per month, and in 2002, the spending reached 18.8 yuan (about 2.27 US dollars), according to the official.
