Guangzhou to invest more in drug rehab centers
Police in this capital city of south China's Guangdong Province are making greater efforts to help local drug addicts kick out their habits, said a police official in Guangzhou Wednesday.

Xie Fuxing, vice director of Guangzhou City Public Security Bureau, said some 150 million yuan (18.3 million US dollars) will be used to build drug rehabilitation centers with a total of 16,000 beds to accommodate drug addicts for treatment.
This an improvement on the current capacity of 5,500 beds.
Statistics show 6,903 drug addicts were forced to take treatment in local drug abstention centers and 2,539 people were sent to labor camps for detoxification from January to November. Meanwhile, 4,134 people voluntarily underwent anti-drug treatment in the city.
Local police cracked 493 drug-related crimes from January to November, confiscating 109 kilograms of heroin, 4.3 tons of "ice" ,four tons of materials used to make drugs and drug revenue of over three million yuan.
Police also captured 14 firearms, a grenade and 173 bullets used in drug deals, said Xie.
