Serial killer sentenced to death in Beijing
A Beijing court sentenced a taxi driver to death Tuesday for killing seven people, three of which he dismembered, and sentenced his wife to 15 years in prison for serving as his accomplice and harboring loot.
A Beijing court sentenced a taxi driver to death Tuesday for killing seven people, three of which he dismembered, and sentenced his wife to 15 years in prison for serving as his accomplice and harboring loot.
Li Pingping, 44, was accused by the Beijing Municipal No. 1 Intermediate People's Court of having lured four young women to his home before killing them from November 2002 to April 2003 when he served as a taxi driver at a Beijing taxi company.
Li was once put under one-year surveillance for sexual harassment in May 1980 and was jailed for six months in December 1985 for theft.
Li said all his crimes were motivated by his discontent against society.
He was captured by Beijing police in June 2003 and police foundthe dismembered bodies of the victims in a garbage dump near Li's home with the clues he provided.
Li is also accused of killing his ex-employer Song Shutian, Song's wife and daughter after he was sacked from Song's food company in May 1995 and of setting a wealthy person's house on fire the same year.
Dong Meirong, Li's wife, was accused of helping her husband commit the murders and harboring stolen money.
