Chinese Finance Minister Jin Renqing said on Wednesday that China will maintain its stable currency policy.

He made this remark when meeting with some French businessmen of the French Medef employers' organization (Movement of French companies).

"The Renminbi (RMB, yuan) will remain a stable currency," he said.

The Chinese minister said that stability of the Chinese currency had played a positive role during the Asian financial crisis in 1998.

China is considering to make its exchange rate "more flexible,"he said last Thursday at a news conference in Berlin following a meeting with his German counterpart, Hans Eichel.
