Two dozen Taliban militants were killed and 18 others wounded during cleanup operations over the last 24 hours, the Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed Sunday morning.

"The Afghan National Police (ANP) supported by the Afghan army, intelligence service and the coalition forces carried out several operations in Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Ghazni, Herat, Farah and Helmand provinces over the past 24 hours. As a result 24 armed Taliban were killed, 18 wounded and 10 others arrested," the ministry said in a statement.

In addition, the ANP also found and defused 33 Improvised Explosive Devices, or roadside bombs, in Sari Pul, Wardak and Logar provinces, the statement added.

The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments.
