RAMALLAH, Aug. 20 -- A Palestinian teenager was killed early Tuesday in clashes with Israeli forces that raided northern West Bank, medical and security sources said.

Three other Palestinians were wounded in the clashes that erupted after the Israeli army broke into Jenin city at dawn, the medical sources said.

There was no immediate comment from Israel.

The 17-year-old youth died after he was hit with a gunshot in the chest area, a doctor from Khalil Suliman hospital said.

Witnesses said that the Israeli forces used live ammunition, rubber gunshots and tear gas to disperse rock-throwing youths.

The Israeli army was conducting a raid to arrest Palestinian activists, security sources said, adding that two residents of Jenin refugee camp were detained.

Such raids are regular despite Palestinian diplomatic protests that they undermine the Palestinian National Authority's (PNA) efforts to maintain order in the West Bank.

Tuesday's killing is the first to happen in the West Bank since Israel and the Palestinians resumed long-stalled peace talks under U.S. auspices last month.
