NEW DELHI, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday highly evaluated the mechanism of India-China Strategic Economic Dialogue, saying it has played an important role in expanding macro-economic policy coordination and deepening pragmatic economic cooperation between the two countries since its launch one year ago.

During a meeting with visiting Chairman of National Development and Reform Commission of China, Zhang Ping, Singh said strategic economic dialogue is an important platform for cooperation which was decided upon by the leaders of the two countries.

He said India is full of expectations from advantages of the platform and believes the two sides can make great achievements from cooperation in the fields of policy coordination, infrastructure construction, high technology applications for energy efficiency, environment protection and energy.

Zhang, who was here to co-chair the 2nd Meeting of India-China Strategic Economic Cooperation, said both China and India are implementing their respective 12th 5-year plan and the two countries have huge potentials of cooperation and are economically supplementary to each other in many fields.

He said that while international financial crisis is expanding and global economic decline is exerting more and more pressure on all countries, it is more important for China and India to carry out macro-economic dialogue and push forward economic and trade cooperation in a pragmatic way.

Various government bodies and enterprises have been participating in the mechanism of strategic economic dialogue and have achieved initial results, which means that the two countries have a wide horizon of cooperation and can further enhance their strategic partnership in different fields.
