ICBC (Industrial and Commercial Bank of China) was proclaimed the world's largest company for 2013 on this year's Forbes Global 2000 list. The list was published on April 18.

This is the first time that ICBC has claimed top spot on the list. Another Chinese bank, China Construction Bank, jumped 11 places to take the second spot.. The two banks saw their rankings jump thanks mainly to double-digit growth on their sales and profits in 2012.

The list has grown since its inception in 2004 when companies from only 49 countries appeared on the list, and this year's list includes companies from 61 countries.

The sales and profits of the 2000 enterprises on this year's list were US$38 trillion and US$2.43 trillion respectively. Besides, the assets and market value were US$159 trillion and US$39 trillion. All indexes increased a lot compared to last year except profit.

The United States came top, with 543 companies on the list, seeing 19 new enterprises make the cut. Japan ranked No.2 with 251 enterprises and the Chinese mainland ranked No.3 with 136 enterprises, equal its showing from last year. It is the first time since 2004 that the Chinese mainland has failed to see an increase in the number of its companies on the list. Fourty-six Hong Kong enterprise made their way onto the list and Taiwanese businesses numbered 41.
