Macao's trade deficit reaches 746.8 mln USD in April

MACAO, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Macao recorded a trade deficit of 5. 97 billion patacas (746.8 million U.S. dollars) in April 2013, as merchandise import soared by 18 percent year-on-year, according to the figures released on Friday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Total merchandise export for April amounted to 724 million patacas (90.57 million U.S. dollars), with value of domestic exports decreasing by 10 percent to 175 million patacas (21.89 million U.S. dollars), the figures showed.

Meanwhile, total value of merchandise export in the first four months of 2013 increased by 17 percent year-on-year to 3.06 billion patacas (382.8 million U.S. dollars), of which value of re- exports increased by 31 percent, but that of domestic exports decreased by 17 percent. And total value of merchandise import increased by 12 percent to 25.56 billion patacas (3.2 billion U.S. dollars)

Analyzed by destination, value of merchandise export to Hong Kong and Chinese mainland in the first four months of 2013 increased by 36 percent and 7 percent respectively year-on-year, the DSEC said.

In the first four months of 2013, value of merchandise import from Chinese mainland and the EU expanded by 13 percent and 16 percent respectively year-on-year, the figures indicated.
