The Vietnamese Prime Minister has approved plans to re-zone and develop border economic areas with goals set to the year 2020 and with vision to 2030, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment on Wednesday.

Accordingly, the export-import turnover through border economic zones is estimated to reach 30 billion U.S. dollars by 2020, an increase of 12.3 percent per year, of which the export value would be about 14 billion dollars, and the import value of 16 billion dollars.

By 2020, about 8.3 million Vietnamese person-times are expected to travel abroad, with about 8 million foreign arrivals to visit Vietnam through the border economic zones' entrance.

Vietnam has 15 provinces bordering China, Laos and Cambodia, with nearly 30 border economic zones having been established. The country has plans to establish four more zones before 2015, and another three more zones during the 2015-2020 period, reported the ministry.
