Ye Shiwen wins 200m backstroke at Chinese national championships

Chinese Olympic champion Ye Shiwen won the women's 200m backstroke gold medal here Friday, the first day of 2013 Chinese National Swimming Championships.

The 17-year-old Ye, who won two gold medals at London Olympics, touched in 2 minutes 11.51 seconds and claimed the first title of the championships, while Fu Yuanhui and Chen Jie placed the second and the third.

Ye will participate women's 50m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly in the next four days, all of which are her minors.

"I need some adjustments after finishing my tour at the 12th National Games and the East Asian Games," said Ye,"My coach hopes to explore more potentials from me."

In other competitions, after grabbing the gold in the men's 100m breaststroke, Zhejiang's Mao Feilian joined his teammates and won the men's 4x200m freestyle in 7:22.64

Zhejiang's Shi Yi topped the men's 200m individual medley in 2:01.98, while another Zhejiang swimmer Wang Shun claimed the title at the men's 1,500m freestyle.

Shen Duo from Jiangsu touched the wall first in the women's 100m freestyle and the Liaoning girl Liu Xiaoyu took the gold of the women's 50m breastroke.

Sun Mengyue brought a gold medal to Chinese Navy from the women's 200m butterfly.

A total of 304 swimmers from all over China are competing in about 40 events of the championships, which run from Oct. 25-29.
