UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Yury Fedotov, the executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, is on a visit to five countries in Southeast Asia for discussions on illicit drugs, transnational organized crime and environmental crimes, deputy UN spokesman Eduardo del Buey told reporters here Friday.

"During the 12-day mission, he discussed illicit drugs, transnational organized crime, anti-corruption, and environmental crimes, including the illegal trade in timber and protected wildlife with heads of state, ministers, and experts," del Buey said at a daily news briefing here.

After visiting Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Lao People's Democratic Republic, Fedotov is on Friday in Indonesia. He will conclude his Southeast Asia visit on Sunday, said del Buey.

The UN office, set up in 1997, is a global leader in the struggle against illicit drugs and transnational organized crimes. It is committed to achieving health, security and justice for all, and to delivering legal and technical assistance to prevent terrorism.
