Brace yourselves for another heat wave - a long one.

The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau said the temperature will be 35 degrees Celsius or above for at least seven days.

Today's forecast calls for a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 35 degrees, the bureau said. A thunderstorm is possible in some areas of the city this afternoon.

The high on Tuesday and Wednesday will be about 38 degrees, forecasters said.

A yellow heat alert was issued by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau at 12:16pm yesterday as the mercury soared to 37.5 degrees. The alert was lifted at 5:31pm after the temperature dropped.

Yesterday was the seventh high temperature day (35 degrees or above) this year. The bureau earlier forecast up to 27 such days this summer.

Meanwhile, yesterday marked xiaoshu, or slight heat, one of 24 traditional Chinese solar terms. Xiaoshu usually indicates the hottest part of the summer is imminent.
