The "Hengyang" guided missile frigate and the "Qinghai Lake" comprehensive supply ship of the 13th Chinese naval escort taskforce under the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) wrapped up the 536th escort mission on the afternoon of January 11, 2013, local time. Up to now, the Chinese naval escort taskforces have completed escort missions for 5,000 Chinese and foreign ships.
By now, the Chinese Navy has dispatched 13 naval escort taskforces to the Gulf of Aden and the waters off the Somali coast totaling 30-odd warships, 20-plus ship-borne helicopters and over 10,000 officers and men. They have successfully escorted, rescued and salvaged more than 60 Chinese and foreign ships.
