A teacher in a Chinese university has garnered overnight popularity online due to photos of his class featuring real guns, according to popular news portal ifeng.com.

The teacher, alias Wu, is from the Nanjing University of Science and Technology in East China. The photos were taken on November 28 when he explained the structure of automatic weapons to his students with over 30 real assault rifles, including the famous AK-47 and an M-16.

The students' majors are related to weapon production, and the class ran 2 hours long due to the teaching props.

University authorities say they exercised strict control regarding the guns, adding that they were permitted to do so by the local police.
