THREE children drowned in a reservoir in central Hunan Province on Tuesday when they were playing nearby. They were aged 11 to 14, according to a report on rednet.cn

They were the latest of a rising number of children who died of drowning in China recently.

Some villagers said they saw the three children playing near the reservoir in Guzhou Town of Shaoyang County that morning. When other kids went there in the afternoon, they only found some clothes on the bank. They ran back to the village to report.

Rescuers searched in the reservoir and eventually retrieved the bodies of the drowned children.
