A cold front will sweep north China over the next three days while heavy rains will hit the central and southern parts of the country, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) said on Monday.
The NMC retained the yellow alert for rainstorms as heavy rains are expected to hit parts of Guangdong, Hunan, Guizhou, Hubei, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong provinces, as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region from Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon.
Some regions of Guangxi, Hunan, Shandong and Jiangsu will see precipitation of 100 to 180 mm.
The NMC also forecasted that a cold front will bring gales to north China. Temperatures will drop by 4 to 8 degrees Celsius in the north and northeast over the next 24 hours, and some regions may even see drops of 10 degrees Celsius. Southern parts of Xinjiang are likely to experience sandy and dusty conditions in the coming days.
China has a four-tier color-coded warning system for rainstorms, with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
