China welcomes the agreements reached by Sudan and South Sudan during Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir's visit to South Sudan, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a routine press briefing that China hopes the two countries will continue their efforts to peacefully solve unresolved issues based on a principle of mutual understanding and concession.

China will continue to work with the international community to actively promote continuous improvement and development of relations between Sudan and South Sudan, Hua added.

Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir and his South Sudanese counterpart Salva Kiir Mayardit agreed on Tuesday to accelerate full establishment of the Safe Demilitarized Border Zone by mid-November.

They also agreed to expedite establishment of an administration, legislative council and police force in the disputed territory of Abyei.
