BEIJING, Nov. 11-- China on Monday voiced concern over Thailand's situation and called for political stability.

China, as Thailand's friendly neighbor, is concerned over the current political situation, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang at a regular press briefing.

Qin made the remarks as various parties of Thailand are quarreling over an amnesty bill pardoning those involved in political violence since Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted as prime minister in a 2006 coup.

Thaksin and opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva -- seen as responsible for the 2010 army action on the streets of Bangkok against Red Shirt protesters which resulted in nearly 100 death and some 2,000 injuries -- are seen as benefiting from the bill, which was passed by parliament earlier this month and is now before the senate.

"We believe the Thai government and people have the capability to handle the problem," Qin said, adding that China wished Thailand stability to ensure economic development and a happy, peaceful life for the people.
