BEIJING, Feb. 11 -- A spokeswoman for China's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that the country will continue to work with parties concerned to ensure "safe and smooth" transport of chemical weapons material out of Syria.

Hua Chunying made the remarks at a daily press briefing when commenting on the completion of the third shipment of Syria's chemical weapons material.

"Chinese frigate Yancheng worked with naval vessels from Russia and other countries to complete the escort," said Hua, adding that Yancheng is awaiting the next escort task.

China welcomes the continuous efforts from all parties concerned, and would like to enhance coordination and communication so as to ensure the safe and smooth transport of chemical weapons, according to the spokeswoman.

A third shipment of chemical weapons material was removed from Syria on Monday, the Joint Mission of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the United Nations confirmed.

Following alleged use of Sarin gas that killed hundreds in Syria last August, Syria announced it was joining the OPCW, vowing it would eliminate its chemical weapons with the help of the international community.
