LUSAKA, Feb. 14 -- Police in Zambia have launched a man-hunt for suspected robbers who attacked two Chinese-owned enterprises on Wednesday night which left one Chinese national dead and others injured, a statement released on Friday said.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda, who confirmed the attacks by suspected robbers on the outskirts of Lusaka, the country's capital, said police have since asked members of the public for information leading to the apprehension of the criminals.

"Police in Lusaka are investigating two cases of aggravated robbery in which Chinese nationals were attacked at two different farms," she said.

According to the police spokesperson, the first incident happened at Sunlight Farm where five criminals entered into a warehouse with the intention of stealing but the owner woke up and fired towards the warehouse, killing one of the criminals while the others run away.

She said the second incident occurred at Point and Lime Technologies Quarry where four armed criminals hacked seven Chinese nationals with the intention of stealing and that a fight ensued in the process in which two criminals were beaten to death while others escaped when the Chinese nationals called for help from farm workers.

On Thursday, the Chinese embassy in Zambia said one of the Chinese nationals died at a hospital while the rest were admitted with various degrees of injuries.

Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao called for swift action so that the matter is resolved and the criminals nabbed.
