KUNMING, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Foreign diplomatic institutions in China have strongly condemned a deadly terrorist attack in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, and sent condolences to the victims' families.

The Consulate General of Italy in central China's Chongqing Municipality on Tuesday presented a note to the provincial government's foreign affairs office, expressing condolences to the families of the victims and hoping the injured will recover soon.

The Chongqing consulate has reached a consensus with the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to keep focusing on the issue, it said.

A group of knife-wielding attackers slashed frantically at crowds at the Kunming train station on Saturday night, killing 29 innocent civilians and injuring 143 others.

Police shot dead four of them and captured an injured female attacker at the scene. Police said Monday that the remaining three suspects involved in the attack had been captured.

Authorities said evidence at the crime scene showed that the terrorist attack was orchestrated by Xinjiang separatist forces.

The Royal Thai Consulate General in Kunming on Tuesday expressed in a statement its sadness to learn of the loss of lives and massive casualties.

The Royal Thai government strongly condemns the act of terrorism, and shows condolences and sympathy to the government and the people, in particular to the bereaved families of the victims, said the statement.

"Such an act of indiscriminate, frightening murder and attempted murder is absolutely unjustifiable and shall never be tolerated by any government and the international community," it said.

Australian Ambassador to China Frances Adamson sent a letter to Yunnan's provincial Communist Party chief Qin Guangrong and governor Li Jiheng, saying the Australian government condemns the brutal attack on innocent people and extends its condolences and deepest sympathy to the victims and their families.

"Australians have been shocked by the violent and indiscriminate attack by a knife-wielding mob in Kunming station resulting in multiple deaths and horrific injuries," the letter said.

"I am confident that the people of Yunnan will emerge strongly from the tragic experience," said Nancy Gordon, consul-general of the Australian Consulate-General in Chengdu.

The Embassy of the Republic of Colombia on Tuesday sent a note to express deepest condolences for the victims of the terrorist attack, saying that the government will support the families of the victims of the attack.

As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, diplomatic institutions of 19 countries, including the United States, Britain, Italy and Germany, had expressed condolences to victims and their families and strongly condemned the attack, according to the foreign affairs office of Kunming.
