SEOUL, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held phone talks Monday morning over the second summit between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States, according to Seoul's Foreign Ministry.

Kang and Pompeo held a phone conversation for half an hour from 9:30 a.m. local time (0030 GMT).

They exchanged opinion about the visit to Washington by Kim Yong Chol, vice chairman of the DPRK's ruling Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, and the second summit between Kim Jong Un, the DPRK's top leader, and U.S. President Donald Trump.

Kim and Trump had the first-ever DPRK-U.S. summit meeting in Singapore in June last year. The White House said Friday that the second Kim-Trump summit will take pace "near the end of February."
