China Gives Great Importance to Combating Fraud, Corruption: Top Prosecutor

The Chinese government has given great importance to combating fraud and corruption, said Han Zhubin, China's top prosecutor, at the opening ceremony in Beijing on September 5 of the 4th annual meeting of the International Association of Prosecutors.

Dealing with the crimes of "fraud and corruption" is on the agenda for academic discussion at the conference.

After long efforts, China's public prosecutions have developed a series of effective measures to curb and prevent fraud and corruption through vitalizing the legal system and enhancing education and supervision, said Han, procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

Chinese prosecution offices also help government bodies and companies involved in corruption cases to analyze management loopholes for further prevention, and have contributed greatly to the economic development and social stability of the country, he added.

In the past 50 years, and especially in the last 20 years of reform and opening up, Chinese prosecution offices have brought to court a large number of corrupt officials and those engaged in crimes of fraud, and have punished them according to law, Han pointed out.

"Corruption and fraud endanger social morality and threaten economic development and social stability in all countries, and should be viewed as common enemies to the entire international community," Han said.

"China is willing to cooperate with all colleagues from friendly countries through deepening understanding, seeking common ground and putting aside differences, and learning from each others' strong points to contribute to the peace and happiness of humanity," he said. (Xinhua)
