Wu Renbao: Leader of Rural Common Prosperity
Wu Renbao has been Secretary of the
Party Committee of the Huaxi Village, Jiangsu Province, for more than 30 years and
successfully turned the remote and backward village into a rich and beautiful new one.
In 1964, Wu and other village leaders made a
15-year-development plan for Huaxi Village. Under his leadership, Huaxi became a
"Happy Village" where every family had surplus and lived in a new house.
Since the beginning of the reform and opening up, Huaxi
Village has taken a road for the comprehensive development of agriculture, sideline
production and industry. The village has established metallurgy, textile and non-ferrous
metal enterprises one after another, and most of its labor force are devoted to industry.
Huaxi Village has also formed big-scale aquaculture through specialization contract. The
rise of industry and sideline production has paved the way for the stable development of
modern agriculture, whose stability has in turn promoted the industrial development.
Huaxi Village has become the biggest township
enterprise group at the village's level in Jiangsu Province. The development of Huaxi
Village is an epitome of China's numerous villages advancing toward common prosperity.
Although Wu has been Huaxi's "Boss" from
1961, he always performs his duty clean-handed. Wu insists on not taking the highest
salary in the village, not living in Huaxi's best house and not receiving the highest
bonus from the village.
