China Welcomes Palestinian-Israeli Memorandum: Spokesman
China expressed "welcome and congratulations"
on September 5's Palestinian-Israeli agreement concerning the implementation of the Wye
Accord signed in October last year and the restoration of the final status talks between
Israel and the Palestine, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi in Beijing on
September.
Sun made the remarks when asked to comment on the
agreement and a memorandum signed between the Palestine and Israel.
The Chinese government supports the positive efforts
made by the Palestine, Israel, and other parties concerned to promote the peace talks, Sun
noted.
China has always maintained that it is the common wish
of the peoples of the Middle East to realize peace in the region as soon as possible,
which also serves the present and long-term interests of the Palestinians and Israelis, as
well as world peace and development, Sun said.
He said that China hopes the parties concerned will, on
the basis of relevant UN resolutions and under the principle of "land for
peace," continue their efforts to accelerate the peace talks to realize peace in the
Middle East at an early date. (Xinhua)
